Colombia Dominates the Individual All-Around in Rio

The 2026 Rio Pan American Senior Artistic Gymnastics Championships featured a spectacular day of competition in the women’s and men’s individual all-around finals, with Colombia making a strong showing.

The highlight of the day came courtesy of the Colombian men’s team, which dominated the competition, with Camilo Vera and Ángel Barajas being crowned champion and runner-up, respectively.

In comments made after the competition, the Colombian gymnasts admitted that, despite the tough competition from world-class rivals, their main motivation was to push each other to excel and raise the level of the national team.

Camilo finished his routine with an impressive score of 81.265 points, while Ángel, despite an unexpected fall on the horizontal bar, showed extraordinary resilience and finished with 80.765 points, enough to secure the silver medal. Both were deeply satisfied with their performances, emphasizing that the real victory was having competed as a single team.

In the women’s category, American Claire Pease took the gold with a score of 54.498, closely followed by her compatriot Charleigh Bullock, who won the silver with 54.032, while Brazil took the bronze with Thais Fidelis scoring 52.232.

The Rio 2026 competitions will continue through Sunday, June 21, at Arena Carioca 1 and will be broadcast live on the UPAG.
