World Gymnastics cancels World Cup in Doha and modifies qualification system

The Pan American Gymnastics Union (UPAG) informs its member federations that, according to official communication received this March 20, the International Gymnastics Federation (World Gymnastics) has ordered the cancellation of the 2026 edition of the Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Doha, Qatar, originally scheduled for April 15-18. The measure was adopted by the Executive Committee after an urgent vote, in consideration of the current situation affecting the Middle East.

The international organization confirmed that the event will not be rescheduled, so the competition is definitively excluded from the official calendar. The decision, of an exceptional nature, seeks to safeguard the conditions of participation and the integrity of the athletes in view of the geopolitical context of the region.

As a consequence of this cancellation, the Executive Committee approved an extraordinary adjustment to the classification regulations. For the determination of the Apparatus World Cup rankings and the qualification to the Apparatus World Championships, the three best results per gymnast and per apparatus will be considered, regardless of the total number of competitions in which the gymnast has participated. This criterion will be applied over the five World Cups originally scheduled.

World Gymnastics also informed that no penalties will be applied for late registrations for the World Cups in Cairo (Egypt), to be held from April 3 to 6, and Osijek (Croatia), from April 9 to 12. The measure is intended to facilitate the adaptation of delegations to the new calendar in force.
