United States and Canada stand out at Jakarta 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2025 left great performances for the American continent, with the United States and Canada excelling in the individual and apparatus events.

In the men’s All Around final, Colombian Angel Barajas again demonstrated his consistency and talent by placing sixth overall. Brazil’s Caio Souza finished ninth, while Canada’s Felix Dolci was 16th and Diogo Soares of Brazil closed in 17th place.

In the overall women’s competition, American Leanne Wong won the silver medal, reaffirming her status as one of the most complete gymnasts in the competition. Her compatriots Dulcy Caylor (13th) and Natalia Escalera of Mexico (17th) also had outstanding performances.

U.S. dominance in the apparatus finals

In the men’s apparatus finals, the U.S. team showed its technical prowess.

Donnell Whittenburg took gold on rings, Patrick Hoopes took bronze on pommel horse and Brody Malone won gold again on fixed bar, reaffirming his return to the world’s elite after his injury.

In the women’s event, Canada and the United States shared the limelight in the jumping final, where Lia Fontaine won silver and Joscelyn Roberson won bronze.

Ellie Black, an example of sportsmanship

Veteran Canadian gymnast Ellie Black was recognized with the Fair Play Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement and Sportsmanship, an award given in honor of her gesture of solidarity with the French team during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Black continues to be a model of greatness in and out of the gym.
