The President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Mr. Morinari Watanabe, made a significant visit to Jamaica, where he held key meetings for the development of rhythmic and artistic gymnastics in the Caribbean country.
During his tour, Mr. Watanabe had a fruitful meeting with Mr. Christopher Samuda, President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, and Ms. Nicole Grant, President of the Jamaica Gymnastics Federation. These meetings reinforced the commitment to collaboration between international and local bodies to foster the growth of the sport in the region.
The visit also included a meeting with the Japanese ambassador to Jamaica, where strategic discussions were held focused on strengthening bilateral ties and seeking initiatives to promote gymnastics in the country.
As part of his agenda, the FIG President visited two schools, including the National Youth Development Team Training Center, composed of approximately 25 young gymnasts. There, Watanabe shared with the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Gymnastics Federation, as well as with representatives of various clubs, with the aim of learning about the local reality and exploring ways for its continuous improvement.
This visit reaffirms the FIG’s commitment to the global development of the sport, promoting inclusive opportunities for new generations of gymnasts around the world.
